financial resources, our partnerships with management
create an environment that allows portfolio companies
to increase their value and more fully realize their
vision.
ABOUT THE FIRM
Chartwell is a New York based private
equity firm with approximately $750 million of equity
capital under management. We invest in middle market
companies with strong market positions, sound business
models and meaningful growth prospects. Chartwell focuses
on solving family succession issues, intricate tax and
public securities problems, as well as creating strategic
partnerships. We have partnered in investments with
Fortune 50 companies such as Ford Motor Company and
Mobil Oil Corporation, and take an active role in the
corporate development of our portfolio companies.
Since its founding in 1992, Chartwell’s
primary investment focus has been on acquiring ownership
interests in market-leading consumer product, light
manufacturing, distribution and service companies that
can benefit from our strategic, financial and operational
support. Chartwell has completed over $2.5 billion in
transactions.
In 2004, Chartwell completed investing
its second fund, which totals approximately $250 million.
In March 2005, Chartwell established an investment partnership
with Leucadia National Corporation. The partnership
seeks to invest $50 million to $250 million of equity
per transaction in middle market companies and build
a diversified portfolio of investments across a wide
spectrum of industries, including manufacturing, energy and natural resources, infrastructure, building products, distribution,
service, retail and consumer product businesses. Transaction
types will include buyouts, recapitalizations, and growth
equity investments in niche market leaders as well as
turnarounds and restructurings in out of favor and cyclical
sectors.
We currently have investments in Richard Childress Racing, PPC, Carey International, Idaho Timber, Goober Drilling, Easton-Bell Sports, and PlayCore.
Selected prior investments include Griffith Consumers
Company, Petro Stopping Centers, and SunPark.
WHY CHARTWELL?
Chartwell has a unique management-
and seller-friendly orientation that distinguishes us
as an equity partner. We are flexible in structuring transactions
to meet seller or management objectives and have the resources
to close without financing, enhancing the speed and certainty
of closing. We provide long-term homes for businesses
and foster a partnership approach with management. We
employ less than 50% leverage in our capital structures,
which allows management to focus on operations, supports the execution of the company's business plan in any economic environment, and affords
access to further capital for growth. |
